My main intent is to expose the fear-mongering machine; and with any luck, disarm the machine by arming people with information. It's real news that the mainstream ignores, things I consider to be smokescreens, plus a few ideas on what to do about it all. Please see the bottom of the blog for older posts and a wide variety of resources that I consider need-to-know info.

Tell the Senate you want them to Support the Fair Elections Now Act TODAY

The Fair Elections Now Act is making progress in Congress in a Senate hearing scheduled for - TODAY - Wednesday, June 20, 2007 at 10:00 a.m. EST – the first congressional hearing in more than a decade on publicly funded elections.

Ordinary voters are being drowned out by corporate and wealthy special interests that co-opt our elected officials and raid the treasury for earmarks and tax breaks. The result is policy for Big Pharma, Big Oil and Wall Street. We can change all that.

The Fair Elections Now Act would:

* Break the nexus between big money and our elected officials that drains taxpayer money from the Treasury.
* Level the playing field - allowing good candidates of modest means to run to serve in the Senate.
* Make it possible for candidates to run and win on the quality of their ideas, instead of the size of their campaign war chests.
* Free candidates from the money chase so that they can focus on talking with and working for voters, not dialing for dollars or cocktails with lobbyists.

It is important that your senators hear from you. If one of your senators sits on the Senate Rules Committee, be sure to send a strong message of support now:

Dianne Feinstein (Chair)------------------- California
Robert Byrd---------------------------------- West Virginia
Daniel Inouye-------------------------------– Hawaii
Christopher J. Dodd ---------------------– Connecticut
Charles Schumer--------------------------- New York
Richard Durbin (Co-sponsor)--------------– Illinois
Ben Nelson-----------------------------------– Nebraska
Harry Reid-------------------------------------– Nevada
Patty Murray-------------------------------– Washington

Please take a minute to contact your senators using the form below.

You could call them too.
Tell them you think public funding of elections is a bargain for American taxpayers. Tell them you’d rather have a few of your tax dollars support clean and fair elections than continuing to pay almost $500 a year to wealthy special interests in earmarks and tax breaks.

If you have not done so yet, become a citizen co-sponsor of the Fair Elections Now Act, and be sure to tell your friends about this landmark opportunity to transform our elections and return our government to the people.

You can also watch the hearing on the Fair Elections Now Act live on Wednesday, June 20 at 10:00 a.m. - Link at CleanUpWashington.org, where you can also learn more about how Fair Elections works.

About Me

My photo
I had been writing a News & Politics column for an online magazine for a little over three years, and just last fall opened this blog to continue publication. I also had the pleasure of being the associate producer for a progressive talk radio host for about a year. Alittle of everything... I've advised small businesses, and I paint all kinds of things (boxes, figurines, greeting cards, personalized children's and other dish-wares, decor...). I still paint when I can, but mainly I'm manage a wholesale company for a Fair Trade, eco-friendly Jewelry & Homewares designer/producer out of Bali called, Verlu. You can see a full catalog of our line on the website, and there is now a list of our retailers for you to visit too. "Wear in everybody's Good Health!"
The political opinions expressed in this blog are in no way related to Verlu. The proud Progressive in me is thrilled to say I'm working with a company that operates in a manner respectful to both Mother Earth & Humanity; however, Progressive Mews is not meant to reflect any opinion - aside from my very own.
